Teachers
Here are some of the highly qualified and experienced teachers working at UNESCO.
Stephen Edwards, Director of Studies
I have worked for UNESCO CICE since 2006. In that time I have completed two corporate contracts in Haiphong, and taught in UNESCO's Hang Chao centre in Hanoi. I enjoy teaching very much. I'm fairly fluent in Vietnamese (although not nearly as much as I'd like to be!), and my hobbies include studying Vietnamese, sightseeing, drinking beer with my friends, and watching films. My favourite newspapers are An Ninh The Gioi, Tuoi Tre and Thanh Nien.
Arno van den Heuvel
I have been a teacher at the centre for almost 5 years. What I like most about teaching here is the pleasant work environment. Our school is relatively small, so all staff know each other. This makes for a very friendly atmosphere. On top of that, teachers are given full responsibility for their students. Teaching methods are eclectic, they depend on what is best for the students and the teachers. Teachers have, therefore, the opportunity to tailor-make their classes to meet the needs of the students.
Simone Samuels
I have been involved in the TESOL industry for 7 years, and have taught a wide range of age groups and levels in that time. My teaching career began with an 18 month stint teaching children in China. After this time I returned to my home town, Brisbane, Australia, to complete my Master of Education (TESOL) whilst also working with adult migrants from all over the world. Shortly after completing my post-grad studies, I commenced work at a TESOL training company, where I trained Australian adults how to teach English abroad. Most recently I have taught in the UK and now I have been living in Hanoi for 8 months, where I have been teaching IELTS and TOEFL-IBT at UNESCO-CICE.
